Welcome to Queensland Servant Leadership Forum
Leaders are important because they hold the power to either improve or impoverish the life experience of those who follow. Since there tend to be many more followers than leaders, the decisions and actions of one person will affect many. Consequently a careful study of the ingredients that give rise to good leadership is strategically valuable. Though it is somewhat difficult to isolate the ingredients that determine whether a person’s leadership will be good or bad, it is clearly connected to the character and the motivations of that leader.
In 1997 a group of Members and Senators from the Australian Parliament invited young Australians to Canberra to talk together about leadership motivations. This was the beginning of the National Student Leadership Forum on faith and values. Every year since then, future leaders have spent four days in Canberra considering how values and faith might have an influence on the kind of leaders we hope to become.
However, each year there are many more nominations than there are places for the National Forum. Realizing this, a group of Queensland State Members of Parliament have been inspired to hold a Queensland Servant Leadership Forum on faith and values.
The Queensland Forum has been run since 2005 as a subsidiary of the National Forum. In 2008 the Queensland Servant Leadership Inc. was formed to provide a range of leadership development activities for young people, including the annual Servant Leadership Forum.
We believe our young adults (18-26) are at an important stage because they are in the process of determining their goals and orientation in life. They have begun to develop a thinking, critical approach to life, yet hopefully still hold their ideals intact. They will one day be our leaders, so their view of leadership is of critical importance to our nation and our region.
QSLF 5th-8th August 2010
The purpose of the Forum is to inspire and equip young people to become leaders who make a difference because of their personal commitment to serve others.
I came along with no expectations- the Forum blew me away. I learnt a lot about leadership, learnt a lot about myself. Took some time to reflect. It was great hearing others stories. Puts the important things about life in perspcetive. And I have come away from the Forum with a lot more than with what I went in with.

I feel so privileged to have been able to attend such an amazing program. What I've learnt from speakers & through the values of my small group members is something I will carry for the rest of my life.

I've made valuable, close and open friendships and will move on from the Forum with a renewed enthusiasm as I pursue leadership.
